I grew up on a family farm in eastern Iowa where I learned the values of hard work, determination to succeed and the power of a positive vision.
I have lived in Ames since 1996, when I enrolled at Iowa State University, where I earned a B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural Education along with a M.Ed. in Higher Education.
While serving as a member of the Ames City Council, I proudly fought for fiscal responsibility and worked to strengthen the economy by embracing pro-growth principles and encouraging public-private partnerships. I also served as a member of the Ames Economic Development Commission.
Growing up, my parents instilled in me the importance of giving back to the community through volunteering. I’ve previously served on the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, the Iowa Sports Foundation Board of Directors, and am a Past President of the International Council of Acacia International Fraternity. Currently, I serve as chapter advisor for the Iowa State Chapter of Acacia Fraternity, Secretary of the ISU Greek Alumni Alliance, Treasurer of Story County GOP and am also a member of the NRA and Farm Bureau.
Currently, I am employed by the National Pork Producers Council as the Director of Grassroots, where I work with NPPC’s investor membership to advocate on various issues of importance to the pork industry.
As your State Treasurer, one of my guiding principles is Iowa cannot spend more than we receive. We also cannot spend one-time funds for on-going expenditures. This is irresponsible.
As Iowans, we expect more and demand better from our elected leaders. As your State Treasurer, I will hold elected leaders accountable for their budget decisions. I will also work to ensure Iowa does not underfund its commitment to Medicaid, IPERS and the Peace Officers’ Retirement, Accident and Disability System.
You pay taxes. I pay taxes. We all pay taxes. As State Treasurer, I will be the advocate for the taxpayers of Iowa. I will fight for the people of Iowa to ensure the greatest possible financial transparency of the State of Iowa.
I will work to earn the trust of all Iowans and assure them that their tax dollars are being spent appropriately and work to identify and eliminate duplication of services throughout State Government.
As your State Treasurer, I will work with Governor Reynolds and the State Legislature to ensure the recent State and Federal tax reforms are implemented correctly on behalf of hard-working Iowans.
Agriculture is the backbone of Iowa’s economy. When Iowa agriculture is strong—businesses are growing, our communities are thriving, and our economy is healthy.
As your State Treasurer, I will be a champion for economic development, fighting for new and emerging export opportunities for Iowa’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors, and support efforts that create more job opportunities for all Iowans.
